  • Can this DirecTV Tivo be saved?

I apologize if this is redundant... I've done a search and can't quite find my problem addressed...

    I have the Hughes SD-DVR 40.

Several months ago, I started having problems on Satellite Input 2.
Specifically the picture would start to pixelate and freeze on some Directv channels, but not all... (usually 500s were the worst, plus my local channels... some channels in the 300s seemed unaffected.)

The problem got worse and worse as the months passed such that anything that was recorded on Sat in 2 was unwatchable.

I switched my Satellite In cables to see if the problem followed the cable... but it did not. The problem remains on Sat In 2, no matter which cables were installed. Sat In 1 was never affected.

I called DirecTV, and they sent me one of their crappy refurbished DVRs, and though I have no more pixelation problems, I can't live without TIVO.

Anyone have any insight on what the problem might be? Motherboard? Bad Input? Hard Drive??

    Thanks very much.

That's a motherboard issue that generally isn't worth repairing, sorry to say. We have replacement units (true TiVos for DirecTV) here:
