Hi all. Sorry if this has been answered repeatedly elsewhere, but I was having difficulty finding symptoms like this in the forums.
I have an RCA DirectTV DVR with dual-receiver ports. I upgraded it at some point several years ago to go from 40 hours of recording to 150 hours of recording. It's been working like a charm until recently. First, all of our menus are REALLY SLOW in responding to commands (like 10 seconds to a minute). Then all the TV shows, recorded or live, started stuttering; almost like some of the buffering was being skipped over while playing. This includes shows that we have recorded and watched previously without issue.
Given the buffering issues I suspect the hard drive. Does this sound about right? I can see the stuttering tied to the drive, but I was surprised that the menus are getting progressively slower as well. DirectTV claims it isn't their software and want me to lease one of their new DVRs, which I refuse to do given the the things I've been hearing about them. Also, I'm an EE, so I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty if the box needs to be opened.
Thanks in advance,
steve
