    Should I connect my Tivo HD via component or HDMI?

    Should I connect my Tivo HD via component or HDMI? I have an available component connection on my TV but all my HDMI connections are currently taken.

    Is there any quality loss by going component? Or, would it really be worth it for me to get an HDMI switcher to connect it via HDMI?

    I think you'd be more than satisfied with component. In fact, most home theater professionals prefer that connection because it tends to be more trouble-free. The only thing you'd need to decide, then, is how to send your audio.
    That's all there is to it!

      Thanks. But is there any picture quality difference between the two?

      Audio is not a problem for me, I have an optical digital in available on my AV receiver.

        The proof is in the pudding. As I said, I would have no reservations about using component, but if you want to compare, try both and see if you can tell the difference. Then let us know what you think.

          Personally, at least in theory, going from digital (the program stored on the drive) to analog (component) back to digital (the HD TV) should introduce plenty of degradation. I always use HDMI if I can - it's easier to hook up, it carries the signal digitally, it carries sound also, and I've never had a problem with it.
