  • the eSATA expansion issue

    Hello.

My two 500GB upgraded units (yours) are apparently not capable of supporting the recently discovered eSATA hack - the kickstart 62. I am sure you are aware of this.

Do you have any insight as to why the stock 250GB drive will work and a weaKnees-upgraded drive will not?

    thanks

    regards,
    patrick

We really don't. Since this is pretty unsupported by TiVo at this point, we aren't even doing too much investigation. When we have some good assurance that this is here to stay, we'll do some more digging.

I am about to get my upgraded S3 (tomorrow, giddy up! ) and just heard about the eSATA drive hack. Let us know when you find something out!

      Thanks!

I just read on the TiVo Community forums that the eSATA expansions are officially approved ( http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb...d.php?t=370784 ). Any possibility of a fix for those of us that purchased an expanded internal drive?

        Thanks much,

        Sean

We can get an external drive connected to any internal drive purchased from us. We just need to get the unit or drive back here and we can add the external to it.

            translation please

If you are shipped a drive you originally shipped in a WK S3, do you simply need the initial drive or do you also need the proposed additional (external) drive?

How transparent is this "marrying" process to the second drive?

            thanks

We need both drives - and we like to have your TiVo for testing, but we don't absolutely need it.

              Totally transparent.

                Michael:
Why do you require the hard drive and the Tivo. Isn't there some type of instructions to enable ESata external drives that you can send to those of us (like myself) who recently purchased and upgraded TivoHD from WK?

                Thanks,

                Stan

Unfortunately, it's not something that can be done inside the TiVo. In that situation, both drives need to be in a PC at once.

                        Kickstart 62

I figured it out by going on the web. Involves software 8.0 versions of Series 3 with ESTA port.

                        Thanks
