Same house service

Does Tivo recognize which house its receiving info from? I want to use my member status to get my mother in law a tivo. Will it matter if hers calls in from a different place than my others? The account will be in my name. Can I change it after service is activated?

I really don't know the answer to that question on a technical level, but I am pretty sure that it's against TiVo's terms of service, so I can't recommend it.
