What are the symptoms of the dead TiVo?

One of our DirecTiVos got to a point where it just won't start up. All we would get was a gray screen. We called direcTV and they talked us through all of the troubleshooting with now luck. They said they would send us out a refurbed TiVo unit, but when it got here it was actually a DirecTV dvr (yuck!).

I had upgraded the hard drive a couple years ago and kept the old as a back up, so I slapped the old one back in and the unit fired up just fine so I would say the newer/bigger hard drive died. We had a lot of shows recorded, so if possible i would like to recover those shows on another new hard drive.

Given that your larger drive died, there's really not a huge chance you can recover the shows, but we can try a low-level copy if you'd like. Email us for more info: [email protected].
