    i received my new upgraded hughes tivo and hooked it up

    the regular programming was activated with no problem,
    but i cannot dial in to initialize the tivo service
    i keep getting a "failed to connect" message

    i had the same problem with a previous hughes receiver
    but a sony receiver works just fine on the same fone line
    we have earthilnk true voice telephone service at home

    we use the ,#034 prefix with the sony, but it doesn't work for the hughes
    nor does ,#019

    the new receiver works fine (dials in ok) from another location
    with old-fashioned bellsouth fone service

    have you had any reports of hughes tivo units not being able to connect with earthlink truevoice service
    and is there any known fix

    We've seen lots of TiVos have problems with VoIP lines. Sometimes, one TiVo in a house works, and another doesn't. In almost all cases, our external modem kit will make your TiVo work with VoIP:

      actual fone service

      well - i checked with eatrhlink and it seems we have dsl + home fone service, which according to them is "regular" land-line service
      but even though we are NOT actually voip, it still does not work on the hughes

        OK - then we're pretty sure the modem would help.

          ok - so if i understand it right, my choices are - try a modem and cable ($80), or switch back to bell south
