    DSR704 Networking

    I am confused as to which models are DirecTivos and which aren't. I have a DSR704 that I got from my uncle to replace the crappy R15. On setup it will not let me dial out. I get "Failed. Could not connect" and in some cases "Failed. System not answering". I'm not sure if this is the modem or my phone line as I have DSL and when on the phone I sometimes have static and this was before I got the DSR704. Can I use broadband on this TiVO? How can I tell for sure if this is a modem issue or a phone line issue? If it is the modem, is there any other way around it short of purchasing an external modem?

    You can't use broadband on that unit.

    If the unit has DirecTV in it, it isn't a standalone.

    Are you sure you're trying this with a DSL filter?

      I do have a DSL filter installed. I tried it with and without the filter.

        I got the original modem to connect finally. I added the prefix ",#034" to slow the modem speed down. It connected on the first tray and all is okay.

          Now for the next task. Can I easily take out my HDD in my R15 and put it into my DSR704 so that I have a higher capacity?
