We have a similar situation..have 2 old TiVos that transferred fine. Set up our new Premeire HD XL today from Weaknees. Am able to transfer from one of the old TiVos but not from the second old Tivo....trying to do a transfer-when scrolling thru Now Playing on old Tivo(using the LX version) it gets to the 2nd page of 4 pages and begins to populate with the shows then suddenly says-No Recordings for this device. Called Tvo and talked to 3 people-no one at TiVo knows anything..will wait til Monday to call weaknees-they are the best support out there for anything period. They will know what to do or guide me to what I need to do. Weaknees can not fix what Tivo screwed up-I have never had the great service anywhere as I have had from weakenees!!! Don't blame them for something that is not their fault.

New Premeire XL not transfering-reply to Michael

Thanks Michael for your help. I am in the process now of transferring from XL4 to Series 2 and Series 3 to Series 2 to check them all out to see what/who is talking to each. I AM able to transfer from 1st & 2nd page of Series 2 to XL4. It just gets hung up and wipes out all the pages after page 2 when trying to view from XL and trying to see Series 2. I was able to transfer from Series 3 to XL4. I will also check to see is Series 2 can transfer to Series 3 and all combo's of transfers before I send another post. I want to make sure everything is correct except that silly page 3 non-populating with message of Basement DVD has no recordings. I also spoke to TiVo yesterday & gave them 5 examples of bad channel lineup from Comcast/Baltimore. They use www.Zap2it.com to check listings and I compared it with the 21054 zip code with the www.comcast.com line-up and there are a ton of mistakes. Must wait over a week to see if they are fixed. I will try your fix you sent me earlier but I was only able to see the Part 1 fix. Can you send me the Part 2 of the Transfer Fix or tell me how to get to it please? Once again-you guys are the BEST at any customer service I have ever seen ANYWHERE!!!!!! Thank you!!

XL4 Transfer-extra info

Forgot to tell you in case this is important. All 3 old TiVos have a G thingee but the new XL4 has an N thingee(?) but the router is a dual band with both G and N. TiVo said this may be the problem. I have no idea why I called them except ya'll were closed this weekend & I forgot the blog thing. I will let you know when the transfers work or don't work.....I read somewhere that I had to wait 3 hours with each change in the account so I won't know anything for at least 7 hours. You guys rock.

I really don't think that's a problem. You can verify that the IP address of each unit is on the same subnet (generally, the first three sections of numbers will match, but not the fourth, like 192.168.0.XXX). Assuming they're on the same subnet, the method of connection shouldn't matter at all.

Question about your Part 1 Transfer

Just found out more stuff..........series 2 sees both series 3 and XL4, XL4 sees series 2 and series 3 but series 3 only sees series 2(not XL) on Now Playing. I am able to transfer between series 2 and 3 each way. I am able to transfer between XL and series 2 but only up to the second page. I can transfer from series 3 to XL but not from XL to series 3 b/c XL doesn't show up on series 3 Now Playing. I Also want to rename them b/c I will move the unplugged box ( call it HD-1TB) to where the series 3 is now(bedroom) and move the series 3 to the basement where the series 2 is and just retire the series 2 until we get another TV. With all that said-which boxes do I uncheck to refresh? They are all checked now...do I rename them first then do the un-checking or which sequence is best? Sorry about all this. I have now spent close to 12 hours running from room to room trying to fix this. I also appreciate your super quick responses. Plus I found Part 2 in your blog....won't do that until I hear from you and do Part 1 first. I am so confused. Do you want to email me? Thanks.

The TiVo DVRs talk with each other using web protocols on a variety of ports. Usually there is an SSL connection involved in the process of getting the list of programs. Perhaps there is some sort of certificate error in one of the boxes. Try this.

Go to www.tivo.com/manage and log in. Change the name of the DVR and turn off transfers and downloads. Wait three hours for the changes to ripple out from the website to the server farm and then connect the TiVo to the service to download the changes. Verify the changes on the system information screen of the DVR. Now go back to the manage website and turn transfers and downloads back on. Wait three hours again and then force another DVR connection to get the information downloaded.

You may need to do this with all three DVRs. It is my understanding that the name change and toggle refreshes the data structures in the DVR that among other things include the SSL certiticates.

After all DVRs are updated, I would recommend powering them each off in turn to do a cold reboot. It is best to let one fully boot before plugging the next one in to avoid seeing weirdly named DVRs in the now playing lists.

This procedure may not help, and is fairly longwinded, so feel free to give it a try at your own convenience, or not, as you see fit.

Maybe he's just some helpful and knowledgeable guy - the info looks basically right. Have you given it a shot?

Other goofy things have happened-couldn't see the 1 of the 2 older TiVo's on new XL4 then it showed up........Waiting on whether you tell me to rename them then un-plug or wait til we move the 2 older TiVos and retire the oldest to do anything....but still-after we move old living room to bedroom, bedroom to basement & retire basement one-do we re-name them first and wait 6 hours or re-name and un-check at the same time or do the unchecking thing then re-name them later?

XL4 Transfer Multi-Viewing

As much as I hate to do this...I must. I am going out of town for a week and must stop trying to figure out the new XL4 we got.Will resume when I come back in 7 days. By that time-hubby will have changed the setup of the 3 older TiVo units.He will move the most current to the bedroom then that one to the basement then retire the one in the basement. Have had numerous problems with multi-room viewing but will wait to see what happens when I come back. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR YOUR HELP...........please be advised that I will be bugging you when I return!!!!!

XL Transfer Problems

Yes, they are all on the same account. Going out of town for a week-hubby will re-arrange the old TiVos and try to re-boot and re-name, etc and will let you know what happens when I return. Thanks for ALL you do ALL the time!!!!!!
