Alternative wifi connector

I currently have a TiVo TCD746320 Premiere DVR, Black (2010 Model) and the TiVo Wireless G USB Adapter. They are both quite old - maybe 5-10 years. I am having trouble with the wifi adapter loosing the connection and then I have to spend all this time messing around with my laptop and ip addresses to try and get it working again.

Question: for my model TiVo is that weird Wifi adapter the only one that will work? After all there seem to be lots of usb-wifi adapters that are simpler and just work. Can you help me understand? Thanks,

There are two Wifi adapters that work. Both are TiVo brand. One is G and the other is N. We have refurbished G models in stock. We haven't seen the N for years.

Thanks. Do you know why only Tivo adapters work? Its pretty odd.

They do some additional compression and processing in the adapter, apparently.
