  • Mixing wireless & wired connections

I currently have two Tivos, an HD XL and a series 2. I'd like to set up a network for them and am wondering if I could connect one wirelessly and one wired and still be able to transfer shows between them and my PC. So my ideal setup would look like this:

Linksys wireless router - with wired connection to HD XL

    Series 2 connected wirelessly

    PC connected wirelessly

Has anyone tried that before? I know if I connect them all wirelessly it would probably be ok, and it seems to me that in theory this setup should work, since the router is simply passing information between IP addresses and doesn't care if that IP address is a wired or wireless connection, but I thought I'd ask before I spend a Saturday setting this up.

    thanks,
    Chad

Sure - as long as they connect to the same network, which they would if they both go into the same router. The router bridges together both wireless and wired. No problem at all.

Thanks! I'll give it a shot this weekend and report.

        It works!

So it only took me 5 months to get around to doing this, but I'm happy to report that it does work. I actually didn't connect the Series 2 Tivo, but the HD XL is wired to the router which connects wirelessly to my desktop and I was able to transfer a show this morning before work. The sound was almost non-existent though, so I increased the audio gain and transferred another one and I'll test it out tonight.
