    I have the model TCD240080 - yeah, the old one. I have a lifetime sub on it but it has refused to update the software for years.

    When I called Tivo about this, I was told they would exchange the unit for $50 and my lifetime subscription would transfer. That was like 2 years ago.

    Fast Forward over many personal changes and interstate move. I call back today and now all of a sudden the fee is $349 PLUS I have to pay for service all over again.

    I cannot afford that. So I start hunting for repair service.

    Anyone else have a problem like this? WK says it is the HD. It is still a lot of money for me, so I would like to know that this is definitely the solution before I try replacing it.

    So - has anyone here had the same problem?

    Well, I'm from WK, but I agree with whomever you spoke to: sounds like the HD.

      Update: I bought a slightly larger HD - figured I might as well, since I was going to replace it The installation was easy and it now it works!! I have my Tivo back. You guys rock.
