  • HR10-250s not working with Ooma

I'd like to update the firmware in my two HR10-250s as I'd like to enjoy the new features of versions newer than my 6.3e, but am unable to do so with my Ooma phone service. I have tried all of the different configurations I have found here and on various google searches, and nothing works. I used a land line at my office in the past with no trouble, but due to current economic limitations I must now use this Ooma at home.

But - I was able to very quickly get this to work on my R-10 TiVo with only putting in ,*99, and it worked the first time, and yes I did check the line going to the HR10-250s.

    Any suggestions?

Your best bet is to just get a drive upgrade, which will come with 6.4a, and then take it to a friend's house to dial in. Once it dials in initially (2 calls), then you can continue using it without further calls.

Replacement drive kits for that model are here:

Sorry - that wasn't an answer to my question. I already have 500GB hard drives in each machine. My main question was why will my R10 SD TiVo successfully call in every time through the Ooma system, but my 2 HR10s will not. I just replaced a power supply (from you) in one unit, and am not going to spend another $340 for new 500GB hard drives just to get the newer firmware version as I'm hoping DirecTV will offer some kind of upgrade for the new TiVo next year.

OK - I guess I'm still not sure what the question is, but you can send us the current drives and have us reformat them, and, for HR10-250, they'll have 6.4a on them. That service is here:

The question is: Why won't either of my (2) HR10-250s successfully call in when using the Ooma (voip) system? My R10 successfully connected first time and every subsequent time I tell it to. I've tried all of the configurations suggested on your forum such as ,#096 and *99 on the HR10s with no such luck.

Maybe the unit is bad, maybe you have a bad phone cord, maybe the phone jack at that location is bad, maybe the wiring at that location is bad.

Update - Took both units to parent's house to plug into land line. Both connected on first try and after restart both are now running 6.4a, and had a nice dinner to boot! Obviously the HR10-250s do not work with a "voip" service as well as the R10.

As I stated in my original post, I checked the phone lines and cords running to these TiVos with a phone and all is working fine, the HR10-250s obviously don't like the Ooma voip system.

Right - the on-board modems in most TiVos don't like VoIP systems.

Our external modem kit can fix that problem for most TiVos:

Sorry - I guess we didn't realize that Ooma is a VoIP system.
