  • Oops.. New TiVo, but not the DirecTiVo machine

    Help.. Im a bargain whore, but hopefully not a retard (PC police please excuse)
    I couldnt pass on the TiVo DT TCD649 180-Hour Series 2 offer. I even called a Weaknees csr that told me it would work, but I wouldnt be able to record 2 programs. Now Im told that the fine print in the order r&r on the weaknees form states:

    *IMPORTANT NOTE FOR DIRECTV USERS:*
    The units on this page do not have a DirecTV receiver built in. If you have DirecTV, then we strongly recommend our DirecTiVo combination DirecTV/TiVo <http://www.weaknees.com/direct_tv_tivo.php> units.

    </QUOTE>

    The only TiVo-brand units you can use with DirecTV are:

    Hughes R10
    HDVR2
    Samsung SIR4040
    Phillips DSR704

    Any of you TiVo experts know of an add-on or work around that can overcome this 'design' flaw. Or am I best off to bite the bullet and return for the more expensive DirecTiVo machine.

    Thanks,

    larry

    It'll definitely work - it just needs to control a DirecTV receiver. Do you have a plain-vanilla receiver around?

      Thanks.. That is what I understand and yes I have the standard DTV receiver. I was hoping however there is a more optimal solution including 'ship the devil back and go with the DTiVo unit.'

        You can do that too . . . there's a chart on our site that compares the two options:

        Look at "Advantages and Disadvantages of Standalone TiVos vs DIRECTV DVR" for the most pertinent info.
