Hi Guys!
I’ve been having trouble with my Tivo modem as of late, and I was glad a friend referred me to weaknees.com. I went ahead and bought an external modem from you, and installed it, as per the instructions. I’m still having trouble, even though I’ve gone through all your troubleshooting tips, and I hope you can help.
I have an old Sony SVR-2000 series 1 Tivo. I connected the external modem, and have confirmed that it is working and communicating with my Tivo by listening in from another line. It picks up and dials the number just fine. However, the number it dials ends up being a dead, blank line (no typical modem sounds). Unfortunately I’m stuck in the initial guided setup, and can’t get past it until Tivo communicates with something.
I have a feeling there’s one of two things going wrong. The least likely possibility is that the modem is working, but isn’t transferring the information to my Tivo. I’ve heard that Tivo recently changed it’s dial in numbers, and I think the more likely explanation is that the initial dial in number has changed.
So it appears as though, even with a working modem, I’m still stuck, and I’m hoping you guys might have a solution. There are two possibilities that I think might work, and I’m hoping you guys are good at hacking Tivos, and might know how to do this.
I’m thinking that if I can get out of the guided setup, I might be able to find a dial in number that works. Do you know of any way to get out of the guided setup? I’ve used this Tivo for seven years now, and have lots of content on it. Besides the broken modem, my Tivo was working fine before this.
The other possible solution I can think of is to get Tivo to dial in a different number from the guided setup. I can’t figure out what number it’s dialing, or how to change that, or if it’s even possible, but I figured if anyone knew how to do it, it would be you guys.
Unfortunately, this as an old Tivo with no USB and no Ethernet, just a phone jack, so there’s no other way besides using a modem to access information.
I’d like to express my appreciation in advance for the help and advice you give. I just want my Tivo back! Thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
