  • Exernal modem not working

    I have a philips series 1 that recently stopped making the daily test call through vonage after working fine for several years. I purchased the weakness external modem and still I get the error message Service not answering when I make a test call.

    I have worked through the troubleshooting options on your site -- vonage bandwidth saver is set to 90Kbps, dial Tone Detection and Phone Available Detection are both turned off, call waiting prefix is *99" and I have tried a couple of other NYC dial in numbers. Also tried both ,#319 and ,#396 dialing prefixes. When I listen in, I can hear the modem dialing out and attempting to negotiate.

    Any ideas on what the problem could be or next steps to resolve?

    Have you tried rebooting both the TiVo and the modem?

      just rebooted both tivo and modem -- still get the message Failed. Service not answering.

        If *99 is the right prefix, then you should not have it in the call waiting prefix. Instead, try:

        ,#396,,*99,,
