I have a series 2 that has worked fine for four years. The hard drive started making a very loud sound (like a jet airplane warming up), so I power cycled it and it wouldn't restart. I got a new hard drive from WeaKnees and now I have a new set of problems.
1) It took about 7-8 tries to get it to reboot successfully. Sometimes it would lock up on the gray "powering up" screen. I had to do the Guided Setup three times before I was able to complete the process without getting an unrecoverable error.
2) It keeps "forgetting" or losing my network connection. I have a TiVo-branded USB-WiFi adapter. Even during the Guided Setup I had to keep re-entering my network name and passcode. Now that I have it running (well, more like limping) it stops recognizing the network adapter (N01 error). I have a second TiVo and adapter and have swapped adapters and the problem stays with the TiVo and not the adapter.
3) When I got the new hard drive I compared it to my original and I noticed the jumper settings are different. My original HD was jumpered across pins 1 & 2, the new one is jumpered across pins 9 & 10. I don't know if this is an error or related to the larger size of the new hard drive.
I haven't put the old hard drive back in to see if the network problem goes away, but does anyone have any suggestions for fixing or troubleshooting this?
Thanks!
