  • TiVO USB wireless-g install HR10-250

My HR10-250 has been whining for a long time about not being able to phone home, so I finally got around to buying the TiVO branded wireless-g USB dongle for it. The docs say I need version 7.3 software; I sighed and dragged out a long phone cord and hooked it up and it did its business and went to pending restart, so I did, but it only upgraded the software from something like 6.3 (where it was) to something like 6.5.

I found some information on the TiVO site that said you have to manually connect three times to get a full software upgrade, so I connected three times, but none of those but the first has taken long and none of them but the first have resulted in a pending restart, and my software version isn't going up. I of course restarted and I've connected a couple or three times since.

Anybody got any suggestions? Call DirecTV? Use some nerve pinch on the controller to stimulate it somehow?

The HR10-250's current software version is 6.4a and you won't get updated to anything beyond that...the USB ports are inactive in the unit and networking is not supported by DIRECTV.

GAH! Well, that sucks. Oh, well, I'll keep the dongle around for when I get something that supports it.

Is the HR10-250 hackable some way to do networking?
