  • Connecting My Series 2 Wirelessly...HELP!!!

I have a series 2 TiVo, a Linksys WRT54G wireless router, and a TiVo wireless G USB network adapter. There is WEP encryption and I have a 10 digit password.

My wireless router works fine in terms of transmitting the internet signal to my computer. I have confirmed that my setup is compatible, I have powered down the TiVo multiple times, I have completely unplugged the entire system and started from scratch, I have located the adapter right next to my router, there are no other electronic devices in the network aside from my laptop and the TiVo, and I have tried every network setup option available and still cannot establish a connection.

I have spent 6 hours tonight on the phone and 9 hours last night trying to get this issue resolved with no luck. My internet provider tells me that it isn't their problem because I use the router. The router company tells me it isn't their problem because the router is successfully communicating with my computer. I've talked to at least 5 different TiVo customer service representatitves. While they have been some of the most polite customer service representatitives I've ever talked to, no one can tell me why it isn't working - please help!!!

What exactly do you see on the TiVo when you plug in the adapter?
    What model TiVo?
    What version of the software?
Is your router set up as a DHCP server?

What exactly do you see on the TiVo when you plug in the adapter?
      - When the TiVo prompts me to plug in the adapter during guided setup (I don't know if this is helpful but the TiVo was used for a long time with a phone line but this is the first time I'm trying to go wireless so it isn't the initial setup) and I select "ok, i've plugged in a network adapter" the next page says "NETWORK ADAPTER FOUND: The TiVo DVR has detected your network adapter. Press SELECT to continue...."
      What model TiVo?
-Model TCD140060 read from the back of my TiVo box
      What version of the software?
-"SUPPORT INFORMATION PAGE: Software Version: 8.3-01-2-140"
Is your router set up as a DHCP server?
-When I access the status page for my router, there is a "Configuration Type Section" that lists the first line of information as "Login Type: Automatic Configuration - DHCP"

So if you let it progress normally, what's the error?

Have you tried using a hard-wire cable with a USB to ethernet adapter?

Any idea why your OS version isn't current? That should support the adapter, but if the OS isn't updating for some other reason, there's likely a hard drive problem going on that may be responsible.

As far as errors go, when I select "Get automatically from the DHCP server" on the IP Address screen, it says "A DHCP server could not be located on the network (N02)." When I select "Let me specify a static IP address" on the IP Address screen, it says "The gateway (router) could not be located (N07)." When I select "Let the DVR assign itself an IP address" on the IP Address screen, it says "A DHCP server could not be located on the network (N02)."

You're my last resort - if you can't suggest a solution, I'm going to try hard wiring.

The software version isn't current because the TiVo hasn't been connected for awhile. I've been putting it off for exactly this reason.

I know this sounds crazy, but what's the name of the wireless network?

Could there be more than one network there with that exact name? If so, you may be on the wrong one. Not sure where you live, but if you're in an apartment or something else dense, that could even be an attempt to eavesdrop on data. Rare, I know, but possible.

Thanks for all you thoughts. My TiVo is up and running (hard wired).

Sorry you couldn't get the WiFi working, but hardwired is much, much faster.
