TiVo DVR Expander

Is this just a Western Digital WDG1SU5000 500GB MyBook Premium ES Edition External Hard Drive, or does it have formatting on it to use with a TiVo?

Are there alternative drives that might be quieter or more reliable that will do the same job?

Like a Seagate FreeAgent Pro 750 GB USB / eSATA External Hard Drive ST307504FPA1E2-RK

or

Seagate FreeAgent Pro 500 GB USB / eSATA External Hard Drive ST305004FPA1E2-RK?

As far as we know, it's just the drive. The key is the firmware number of the drive, and a few other non-formatting characteristics.

Other drives may work with the TiVo Series3, but not with the TiVoHD, without formatting.
