  • TCD240040 troubles

Hi, everybody. I'm new to this forum, and am likely coming here for the same reason many have.

During the last couple of months my Wife and I have started noticing the audio/video feed from our series 2 model TCD240040 halting to a black screen every so often. It may stutter rapidly a few times, it may stay black with no audio for several seconds. It may do this every several seconds and may go an hour playing perfectly. We've gone into self-repair mode a few times, and it seems to help for an hour or so, but is far from consistent.

We opted for the lifetime route about 4 years ago for it, so I'm interested in simply replacing the hard drive, as it seems to make sense that it would be a hard drive issue: cables are fine running through multiple routes to the television and through the a/v receiver.

Do the replacement units sold through WeaKnees include the operating system? Will it change the information identifying the unit as the one that has a lifetime subscription? The Comcast DVR just isn't what we've been accustomed to after having had TiVo since day one.

Thank you in advance for any advice you can provide.

By "replacement units" I think you mean the replacement drives. If so, yes they contain the TiVo OS for your specific model, and no, nothing about your unit's Lifetime Service Agreement will be affected. A chip on your motherboard uniquely identifies your TiVo when you connect to TiVo Central.
That's all there is to it!
