  • weaknees modem fried?

Last september, the internal modem on my series 1 phillips tivo fried. I ordered an external modem from weaknees and it's worked fine ever since. But now it can't get a dial tone.

*Double checked, made sure everything was on, connected, no go.
*Turned off dial tone and phone avail. detection, still no go.
*Listened in on another phone. The lights on the modem will light up for 2-3 seconds and turn off (except for the power light). I can't hear it dial out.
*Tried the other fixes; shorter phone line, switched dialing prefix, changed dialing number, etc.

*I'm using charter cable and SBC for my phone line.

    Anyone know what's going on?

What's the exact error message? It shouldn't complain about a dial tone if you have dial tone detection turned off . . .
    Been here a long time . . .

You can try a modem replacement kit:

        http://www.weaknees.com/modem.php

but it's pretty strange to have a dial tone related message if you have no dial tone detection . . .

That's the modem I have right now. But I'd like to try and figure out if it's a problem on the tivo side or the modem side before I start ordering parts willy-nilly.

Do you possible have another TiVo you can test the external modem on?
That's all there is to it!
