  • HDVR2 to SD-DVR40

I had a HDVR2 that one of the satellite ins was going flaky. So I found what I thought was another HDRV2 but it turned out to be a SD-DVR40. I have moved the hard drives (there are two) over to the DVR40 and I have already contacted DirecTV to have it activated with my access card (which is how I found out it was a SD-DVR40).

All is fine with live TV but when I try to access the stored programs it indicates a hardware problem. I don't want to reformat.

Is there any way at all to get the stored programs to work with this one?

If not, if I had gotten an actual HDVR2 and moved the HDs over, would it work or would I still have this problem?

Do I need to put the HDs back in the original HDVR2 and dump them to DVD or is there anyway to get them to my PC?

    Thanks,

    Raneclowd

Get ready for some bad news. Programming recorded on a Directv TiVo MUST be played back from within the original TiVo. Your hardware error indicates you still need to perform a "Clear and Delete Everything" before you can continue to record. For the record, it would not have mattered if you'd been able to find a different chassis. And actually, we've not had good success running HDVR2 operating system in the SD-DVR model. You may need to get that drive reformatted, but at least do the C&D first and let us know what happens.
That's all there is to it!

Thanks Jason. That's what I thought.

If the C&D doesn't work, I should be able to use both HDs right? Where can I get an image to load onto it?

      Thanks,

My pleasure, raneclowd. To answer your question, yes, you should be able to use both drives. And while we can't sell an image, weaKnees can format your drive(s) for you. Try this link:
