  • Two Drive HDVR2 With One Bad Drive

I added a Weaknees 120G drive to my HDVR2 a few years ago, and now the original 40G drive is bad. I've run the Maxtor (now Seagate) DOS based checks on both drives, and the 120G drive checks out fine. The 40G isn't even recognized. I guess the OS is on the 40G drive. When I turn the unit on, the 'Powering Up' screen appears and doesn't go away. If I purchase a replacement drive for the 40G drive, can I recover anything on the 120G drive? If you ship me a new drive will the OS be on it or do I need to do anything more?

If we ship you a new "replace" kit, then that's all you need, but it won't see the 120. That's what we'd recommend, especially if the 120 is more than three years old.

So what I'm hearing is that there is no way to recover anything that has been saved on the 120G drive, right? The manufacture date is 2003, so it is getting a bit long in the tooth -- I think it has 24K POH.

Pretty much, that's right. Best bet is to replace it.
