Hard Drive Crashed (?) Can Contents Be Recovered?

My DirectTV Samsung SIR4080R started showing only a "Welcome-Powering Up" screen. Trying to reset it by unplugging/replugging did nothing. After it was unplugged for a couple of days, I plugged it back in & it briefly came back to life, but then the picture froze & the "Welcome" screen returned. Am I correct in assuming that the problem is the hard drive? If so, is there any way to retrieve some or all of the movies, etc., on the hard drive? Many thanks!

Yes, that problem is most likely the hard drive. We can try our recovery techniques on the drive, but that gets pretty expensive. If you can stand to lose what you have, we'd recommend just getting a replace kit for your model:
