  • Drive or Power Supply

    HR10-250

Returned from a biz trip and the until was frozen. Unplugged and rebooted, froze on powering up. The drive was making a clicking noise. Tried new image, had the same problem. I purchaed a new drive and installed the image. When I booted there was an mesage in the mesages folder stating that there was some kind of problem. I ignored and deleted. Worked fine for a week. This morning ABC DT out of NY began to pixilate. At noon the machine showed a green screen with severe error message.

Is it the drive(s)? or another problem such as the power supply?

That's probably a bad image on the drive. Did you get a good copy when you made it?

      DVRupgrade

I downloaded InstantCakeHD 6.3d Standard from DVRupgrade, created a CD and imaged the drive.

OK - still sounds more like a drive problem than a power supply, but it could be a power supply.

Have you tested the new hard drive in a PC fully?

No, I haven't. How do I go about that? Can I do it from a Windows machine?

              HDD or Power Supply?

              HR10-250
I got this DVR from my neighbor, he said it was working fine when he upgraded last summer.
After hooking it up and plugging it will not boot. It displays the power up screen and after about 50 seconds the HDD light comes on and the power light turns yellow. After about another 40 seconds both power light and HDD light go off and it freezes at the gray power up screen.
Is this the power supply or hard drive?
              Thanks
              Bill

Really hard to know, but if the Powering Up screen remains endlessly, it's more likely to be a bad hard drive. Replacements are here:
