  • I want to make directivo useful

I have an old DirecTV tivo, model r10, but I don't have directv anymore. All I want to do is load it full of video files that can be played on my tv. I'd like to be able to transfer them over my network. It would be awesome if it could some how play divx files too, but i don't think it exists yet. Is there a tutorial that might help me out? thanx

Sorry - there's just no way to do any of that. DTV has made these units so that they only work with DTV. Best bet is to sell it on eBay if it's not leased.

I thought I had read before about a sleeper hack or something to activate the usb ports. And then if I get an ehternet adapter i should be able to transfer from. Is there an OS upgrade or something I can install to transfer to. I know i can watch what's already in the now playing without service.

There are hacks out there (sleeper is one) but they're pretty unstable. If all you want to do is to get the data off the unit and you don't plan to use it again, you should give it a try. But I think these need to be installed before data is recorded, and I think that the R10 may now work with most of them.
