RCA DVR39 vs DVR40

What is the differenct between RCA DVR39 and DVR40. Most posts i looked at were about DVR40 model.

I am thinking of getting a used DVR39 which has only 40gig Hard drive. I would like to increase the capacity and activate the USB ports. Is it easily hackable. Do i have to replace the prom.

Basically, those units are almost identical. We really don't do the hacking of USB ports around here, but as far as we know, the RCA DVR39 is a slightly better candidate. It's an earlier model and lacks some of the security chips on the DVR40.
