Where can I find an instruction manual for our External Harddrive that we bought from you? I don't know what the lights mean and wonder if the hard drive is going bad............The power light is sometimes lit up green and the HDD1 is not lit at all but the HDD2 is lit up red. If our ext harddrive fails-does that mean our internal one is not working even though the capacity is less than 40%? Sorry about this post, my hubby said I was going to embarrass myself with these questions but I don't want to lose what we have on the TiVo. Thanks for all your help-you guys are always so great with EVERYTHING!!

Invoice#871218 Premeire 4XL (2 TB internal hard drive and 2TB external hard drive),silver external hard drive case with Weaknees on the sides, don't know the type of cable but it came with what you sent us and we have had it a little over 2 years but have a 3 year warranty but hubby will not send it in unless it fails entirely...he is threatening to go to Comcast DVR-YUCK.
I talked to Jeremy today because after reading the WK Forum-I thought I could use better instructions on how to do a kickstart 54.......I tried about 18 times today to do a kickstart and it never happened. Website says NOT to HOLD down the PAUSE button and doesn't say anything about a steady yellow/amber light. I tried it many different ways and was able to get a steady yellow light one time for approx. 1 second but not long enough for me to enter 54. Should I hold the PAUSE button until the blinking yellow turns a steady yellow then enter 54? Upon Restart-here is what I see...steady green light for 90 seconds, green goes out for 1 and 1/2 seconds then comes on again steady then immediately yellow starts flashing for about 3 seconds then changes to the regular restart screen. The yellow blinks for only about 3 seconds then stops. Jeremy just said to follow the directions exactly but apparently I can't do that. I have tried pressing the PAUSE button when the green light comes on a second time, immediately before and immediately after the yellow flashes and also about 1 seconds after it starts flashing but don't know whether I should press and release while it is still flashing or keep holding the PAUSE button and if I do hold the PAUSE-how long should I hold it? Thanks Michael-you have always helped me in the past and hope you can figure this out................

I forgot to mention the symptoms of why I wanted to test the hard drives............dog hit TiVo box with a big ball, black screen with message saying External Hard drive not seen, hubby went to back of unit and all seemed OK except external hard drive had a ton of dusty junk covering fan vent holes. He used a can of air spray but blew it into the unit. Two frustrating hours later(60% of recorded shows play back but will freeze(no pixilation), play in slow motion with erratic sound and the fast foward, rewind,8 second buttons will not work or will work in slow and erratic motion and the external box sounds a little loud and wonky yet it seems most of the 2 hour recorded shows play back fine) -we discovered cable from external hard drive not plugged in all the way to back of TiVo box. We plugged it back in and still had all the issues and I have spent most of last night and today just trying to do a Kickstart 54 test with no luck. I want to order the 4TB hard drive upgrade kit from you but hubby said NO unless we know it is the hard drive failing and he also said if it is the external we could just unhook it and use the internal one until it failed. Also, on your website on the test-it shows a Primary and Secondary Hard drive-does this mean the test will check both hard drives and tell you which one may be failing? I am guessing the Primary is the Internal and Secondary is the External? On the External Hard drive-the Power light flashes green, the HDD1 is not lit and the HDD2 is a steady red. When I unplug the TiVo from the power source-the external lights change to -steady green on the power but other 2 are the same-HDD1 not lit and a steady red on the HDD2.

Please scroll to the last sentence that Jeff Weaknees Administrator wrote- we have a 2TB internal with the 2TB external -does this mean we will have problems???Sorry but I think I am having an OCD problem with this hard drive issue and not being able to test it so I can order the new 4TB hard drive is messing me up!!!

Default Premiere Xl Hard Drive's (?)
So I'm about to buy a a new Tivo Premiere XL with the works. And I'm looking at maximizing my unit bringing it to the peak of it's potential. I'd like to see it reach it's overall 4TB capacity ceiling. So I'm going to buy a 2 TB Western Digital external eSata Drive to accompany my new premiere xl Tivo box. The question, however, lies on the inside of the unit. How many hard drive's does the premiere and the premiere xl machine's come with? And what are their factory Hard drive sizes? Does the Tivo premiere xl come with 1 TB drive or 2 500 GB drives? And just to confirm, I should be okay reaching the 4 TB peak with either 1 2TB drive or 2 1TB drives in my Tivo; in addition to my new 2TB external WD eSata drive right?
I need to know because when I upgrade the machine to 2TB's on the inside, I want to know if I have to get a 1.5 TB to accompany the 500 GB factory, or a 1TB to accompany the 1TB factory? Do you know?

and I suppose it's good to know what the drive capacity ceiling is currently held for each internal slot as well. SO is a 1.5 TB going to be okay to bridge the gap? Or is 1TB the limit of each drive slot that the Tivo can process internally at any given time. (Per drive)
... With current technological standards for the Tivo machine of coarse.

The Premiere has a single 320gb inside; the XL has a single 1TB inside.
Going with a 2TB+2TB drive can cause problems; I'd suggest you wait a bit and consider a 4TB kit that we expect to be selling shortly. 4TB is currently the max, and it has to be done right to actually function.
