External Harddrive

I have the 2000GB X 2000Gb External Hard Drive System, and have it in the bedroom. I have been turning it off at night because the LED is so bright and the hum of the fan is a little too much. Does it create a problem in recording, by turning it off? Do the saved recording stay in the TIVO box then goes onto the External hardrive when I turn it back on?

Definitely do NOT turn off the drive while the DVR is on. You can cover the lights with electrical tape and that should solve the problem.

As for the fan, if you don't want that noise, you'd have to take the outer case off of the drive so that the two drives are exposed. Then, if the drives are exposed to air, you can disconnect the fan.
