Hi all,
I realize this is really a pre-sales question, but I thought I'd reach out anyway to see what feedback and advice I get. I am considering dropping DirecTV and switching to TiVo + Time Warner. I'd like 1) a comparison of Genie vs Roamio, and 2) a primer on how well TiVo/Roamio works with Time Warner Cable. A brief background:
We've been loyal to DirecTV for 13 years, originally signing up because of the TiVo hardware. We were disappointed a few years ago that DirecTV and TiVo split and didn't like the DirecTV hardware, but stuck with them anyway. Recently I got excited that apparently TiVo was coming back to DirecTV, but while they did, you can't get the top tier features (whole house) if you opt for the TiVo + DirecTV grouping. So, with reservation I decided to go the Genie route. The technician contractor responsible for performing the Genie upgrade has been miserable to deal with. My upgrade hasn't been attempted and we're coming up on one week overdue. We were here as per the committed schedule and the tech missed the visit. Since then, it's been a constant barrage of phone calls trying to get someone out here to do the installation. Because of that, I am reconsidering and thinking maybe I can get my TiVo back.
Can someone help me understand how the new TiVo Roamio compares to the Genie?
Can someone also help me understand how complicated it is to pair Time Warner Cable service with the Roamio? I've already got Time Warner Internet and phone, and I've looked over the CableCard blog post. Do I just ask Time Warner to start sending the cable feed to the house, and as long as I get a CableCard I just connect the Roamio box and we're good?
Thanks,
Chris
