    tivo hd hard drive replacement

    I have a ser. 3 tivo hd that the hard drive has died...
    I found some were a link to weakness software disk image 48
    that I have made disk and boot using cdrom built in or usb external with a old external drive wd500g
    tivo drive that i took out of case and put in a pc so i could format
    for my tivo...
    program runs and then goes through everything then just sits there..
    when i press enter shows weakness #
    and that is it...
    the pc is asrock mb with 2.0 cpu, tried with both ide cd rom built
    in and external usb cd and had same problems.
    motherboard sees units and wd drive but software just sits there
    any suggestions.

    also another note. my boss gave me his tivo premier but only
    has month and cost of new lifetime is nuts....
    can i take that drive out of it and put in my tivo hd.?

      The two units use different versions of the OS.

      The boot CD you have requires a good TiVo drive to get a copy of the right OS from. It won't just format alone.

        do you have a boot disk with os for format new drive or what can i use to format it and install in unit.
        will unit do it itself?

          The boot CD you have requires a good TiVo drive to get a copy of the right OS from. It won't just format alone.

          The TiVo won't do it. You need good software. The drives we sell online have the software pre-loaded. Also see:
