serial port (2.5mm)for channel change

I'd like to change channels on my cable box without having to use the tivo IR. Takes a really long time between channels. My cable box doesnt have a db9 serial port on it. just the IR out(which I cant use). any ideas on how to change the channels without IR?

You'd need either DB 9 or DB 25 or you'd need the low speed data port which looks like a phone jack.
