  • Series 2 doesn't see coax channel/tuner problem

I have a series 2 that I use with cable, so it only needs to tune to channel 3 or 4 and the switching is done with IR. Its worked fine for years, but it took a dive yesterday. I suspected the power supply, so I happen to have one and replaced it and it was revived.

Except now, it can't seem to find the coax tuner. It keeps saying there is no signal, but I can hook up that tuner box and to another tv and it works fine.

So either the problems were related or taking the box apart seemed to affect the 2nd tuner. I'd switch to composite input (and output) but the little cable DTA only supports coax or hdmi. I think I would need to upgrade to a new dta but that one I think is a full blown one, not a little switcher box, so that is more cost.

The box was pretty dirty, so I cleaned it. But what could kill the second tuner? I think the tivo detected it, you didn't have to set it up (I went through the setup again, but it does the same thing. I reopened the box, and I see the little boxes on the motherboard with a cable between. Nothing seems to be loose.

I go into the System menu and i see ERROR for the coax connection. I don't know that is because it has failed or it can't see anything on the coax.

You have a motherboard failure, which can happen in units that are as old as your Series2. When you ask "what could kill" it--it could be a lot of things: Age, heat, power issues, bad power suppy inside the unit. It's hard to know for sure.

Well, thanks. I think I can convert to hdmi->rca input and hope the rca port still works for output, oh, i think it does because I can get on the tivo!
