This is very odd... I have great signal strength... anywhere from 85 to 100 depending on what satellite or transposder. The other night when I was having the 'no satellite 2' message, I went over to the signal strength screen and they were bouncing all over the place. Going to full stregnth and then down to zero bouncing the whole time. This is in addition to the box wanting to reboot every once in a while. The box is a HR 10-250. Any thoughts?

Problem returns... this time I have lost my local channels. I have two boxes that I bought on Ebay. One of them the card reader doesn't work and the other has the signal strength issue. Can I canabalize one of them to make the other work? Or is it all soldered to the motherboard?
Thanks!

I am having similar problem with a Hughes HDVR2. It is intermitted but the satellite 2 signal is not very good. The tv picture on Sat 2 looks very "digitized" at times....it looks very simliar to when there is snow on the dish. I have changed out the dual LNB on my sat and am still having issues. Sometimes it can go for days without an issue and sometimes it is not watchable at all. I am thinking it is the SAT 2 tuner? Do the two tuners work indepently of each other? Can I replace the second tuner? Or does anyone have any other suggestions? I REALLY do not want to have to get the directv unit!

Replacing the tuner involves soldering on the motherboard. Most of the time we hear of individuals doing this themselves, they damage the motherboard beyond repair. We have replacement units and that's usually the path of least resistance for most people in your situation:

Can I send the unit into Weaknees and have them solder a new tuner on the receiver? I have purchased an additional harddrive from Weaknees and would rather keep the unit that I already have, if that is possible. It is very odd how it works very well most of the time and then all of a sudden the one tuner get really bad. I am just assuming it is the tuner. Any test I could do to verify?

For the HDVR2, the cost just doesn't make sense. At the moment, we have new and refurbished HDVR2 units here:
