S2 Total Lockup - Fan?

I have an S2 that started locking up. My reading suggested HD failure. So I buy two new HD and get ready to do the fix. When I open the case, I see the Twin Breeze fan is locked up. I know on a PC, heat can cause a lockup. Is the same true on a TiVo and would the TB be enough to cause this? (Yes I did order new fans already.) If the drives (1 - Max & 1- Seagate) are going, I what to get the data off ASAP. However, if it is the fan, I just bought myself some time.

Sure - overheating can easily cause lockups.

Been here a long time . . .

Quick Update.

I replace the fan on 1/15 and I have had no lockups since. I would dare to say that the Twin Breeze fan is critical to the operation of the TiVo.

We designed the bracket to add extra, but not essential, cooling via that second fan.

My guess is that, over time, your drives are generating more heat from friction, and without the second fan, one would have failed already. So the extra cooling bought you extra run time.
