I have a Hughes SD-DVR40 that works fine as long as neither of the DirecTV satellite inputs are hooked up. I can view recorded programs and delete with no problems. The unit will run forever as long as I never connect the satellite feeds. If I connect either of the two satellite inputs, the unit will receive off the satellite for 10-15 minutes, then begin to pixelate and freeze, and then ultimately reboot. The behavior is the same with either one or both satellite inputs connected. If I leave a satellite connected, the unit will never complete a reboot sequence. If I power it down and then bring it back up without the satellites connected, it will boot up fine.
I don't think this is a hard drive problem. It sounds more like a power supply issue. Any suggestions? I have visually inspected the power supply and see now bulging electrolytic capacitors or other signs of stress. Any ideas or opinions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
