Okay...so I inherited a 240080 that worked for about a day before the hard drive died/started clicking loudly. I figured I would just take a 40 GB hard drive I had lying around, use the image from my 240040 I backed up with MFStools before I upgraded it (back in 2003 or so). I was able to expand the old image onto the drive successfully...but the tivo just sits on the "powering up" screen...did I do something wrong or is this a drive compatibility issue. The 40 Gb drive was working fine in a PC before I started this project. And yes I am being cheap, but I have a sufficiently large tivo already, and really just want another tuner for the occasional conflict and multi-room viewing. Both Tivos have lifetime service!
I believe the drive was spinning up...it certainly sounded like it. I believe the white ribbon cable coming from the IR was in place properly (at least visually it looked okay). I will try again tonight. If the green light comes on, is the IR cable connected? I did not see any other cables headed in that direction so thought maybe it was the same one.
Also, I doubt it matters, but when I received the unit the fan was dead...which I have since replaced with on from weaknees and seems to be fine. But who knows how long it was without a fan...although it had been unused for some time.
Thanks!
