First, I should say my TiVo setup is complex. TiVo HD is in the basement sitting on top of an HD TV with no HDMI input. I use component video for that.
Then, I run an HDMI cable to a powered HDMI splitter, to two powered HDMI/CAT5 extenders, through about 60-70 feet of CAT5 in the walls, to the other two HDMI/CAT5 extenders through HDMI cables to two different TVs on two different floors. It was very difficult, but I got it working. Was working fine for 6 months.
Then, lightning struck. Blew three HDMI cables, the splitter, and BOTH HDMI/CAT5 extenders.
I replaced 'em all. The splitter, the cables, and the extenders. No joy. TiVo links up, then drops the link, then links up, repeat. I thought it was HDCP, but I think the TiVo HD circuit is perhaps fried. I was able to get it to work briefly by carrying the (42") TV downstairs and linking it via HDMI cable directly to the TiVo.
Then the component video-linked TV went "dim" showin TiVo. I can't tell if that's TiVo's issue or the TV. That'll take some work.
TiVo tech support just spouted pablum about HDCP being the TV mfgr's issue, and wouldn't even talk about it. As in silence. What a crock. Worked for 6 months, then stops? That's not likely a software issue. Certainly not a disc issue.
I guess I have to buy a replacement unit from them (or Weaknees....) unless someone has any idea that sounds better....
So, my TiVo HD has one of WK 1TB drives in it. Can I swap it directly, or will I need to reformat it (and lose my recordings....)
