  • Which Tivo should I get??

I'm trying to purchase a Tivo but it's proving to be the most ridiculously confusing and complicated thing EVER. All I want is to be able to be able to record two shows at once...I couldn't care less about HD or anything else. What confuses the HELL out of me is that I guess I have digital cable service? I'm not sure if all cable is digital now or not, but we have those stupid converter boxes on all our TV's now. Now from what I've read, if I want to record two things at once using a Tivo with digital service, I'm going to have to buy some cable cards or something from my cable company?? This is where it gets so confusing to me. Not only that, I guess I'm limited to which Tivo boxes I can use also because we have a digital phone service, and I believe some Tivo's (the older ones) require analog phone service.

Can anyone help me figure out what the hell Tivo model I need? I was hoping to buy an older used one off ebay that has a lifetime subscription on it, but it's looking like maybe that's not an option. Yet the new ones are going to require a cable card or something. I'm just afraid I'm going to end up buying a Tivo that won't work with my cable situation... WHY DOES THIS HAVE TO BE SO DAMN COMPLICATED!!!

Very simple: If you have digital cable and want to record two shows at once, you need a DVR from here:

The CableCARD will come from (and be programmed by) the cable co.

You will want to connect this TiVo to your Internet connection, if at all possible.

So my only options are the Premiere models? Those are way more than what I wanted to spend!

That's really right - but as a brand new model, it'll be current for many years.
        Been here a long time . . .

I read reviews for the Premiere and people said it's really buggy though...is that still true? I've also read that dealing with cable cards is a pain in the @ss. I may just end up going with a single tuner (SUCKS) or just get the DVR from my cable company. Tivo seems way too complicated.
