  • DirecTivo HD - Temperature error... how to fix? BTW - DirecTV is pissing me off...

I invested $1000 in a direcTivo HD DVR some time ago and have been paying DirecTV for the hardware protection insurance ever since. My DirecTivo decided to start telling me almost immediately after I access the Now Playing menu that the system temperature is too high and that it needs to be rebooted. I called DirecTV and they said they would send a replacement - Unfortunately the "replacement" was some piece of crap unit that was NOT Tivo! I called DirecTV and tried to get them to send me a replacement HD Tivo - but not luck. I got so pissed off with them that I canceled my account (after 7 years!)

I'm now stuck between a rock and hard place! I can either fix my HD DirecTivo and go crawling back to DirecTV or go to Time Warner cable and go with the Series 3? Any recommendations?

I opened the case and it looks like the fan is working and the actual temp shouldn't be a problem- so I don't think the issue is actual overheating.
Some posts online point to using HDMI as a potential problem and I was using the HDMI interface. I removed it and no luck. I even removed the HDMI card and still get the error. At this poing I'm thinking it may be the motherboard - Any suggestions on getting it fixed or fixing it myself? I'm pretty handy with a soldering iron so maybe there is something I can do to fix the problem myself (fingers crossed)?

    Any suggestions welcome.
    Thanks,
    Nate

If you want, you can send it to us and we can likely fix it. Our next guess would be that you have a bad power supply. We have replacement power supplies here.

You basically need to order the power supply and the service at the bottom of the same page, and we'll send shipping information:

What if its not the power supply?

If the power supply isn't the issue - will you guys return the power supply and tell me what the problem is and let me know what it will cost to repair?
          Thanks,
          Nate

Well, if you send it in for us to do it, we'll never charge you for the power supply in the end if it doesn't help it. If you do it yourself, it's returnable - see the full info on our site.
