I invested $1000 in a direcTivo HD DVR some time ago and have been paying DirecTV for the hardware protection insurance ever since. My DirecTivo decided to start telling me almost immediately after I access the Now Playing menu that the system temperature is too high and that it needs to be rebooted. I called DirecTV and they said they would send a replacement - Unfortunately the "replacement" was some piece of crap unit that was NOT Tivo! I called DirecTV and tried to get them to send me a replacement HD Tivo - but not luck. I got so pissed off with them that I canceled my account (after 7 years!)
I'm now stuck between a rock and hard place! I can either fix my HD DirecTivo and go crawling back to DirecTV or go to Time Warner cable and go with the Series 3? Any recommendations?
I opened the case and it looks like the fan is working and the actual temp shouldn't be a problem- so I don't think the issue is actual overheating.
Some posts online point to using HDMI as a potential problem and I was using the HDMI interface. I removed it and no luck. I even removed the HDMI card and still get the error. At this poing I'm thinking it may be the motherboard - Any suggestions on getting it fixed or fixing it myself? I'm pretty handy with a soldering iron so maybe there is something I can do to fix the problem myself (fingers crossed)?
Any suggestions welcome.
Thanks,
Nate
