I have a RCA DVR40 that is now dead! About a year ago I had some problems that a new drive from WKs solved. Over the past several months I have had occasional no response from the remote that a power off and on would remedy. Also the unit would occassionally reboot on it's own but worked fine.
Lately the rebooting came more frequently. The picture sometimes goes off and on or stutters but no pixalation problems. I am sure I don't have a signal problem. I started getting a #81 message saying that my DVR service was not activated. I ran a system test and the unit seemed to have trouble connecting so I changed the call up number and that seemed to help. Then I started getting a #51 message that there was a problem with my equipment that need to be fixed before I could record or watch recorded programs. After talking to DirecTV I decided to try a full system reset and re-format the drive to see if the problem went away. After the system re-formated the drive it went into system setup and all was going fine but halfway through the setup the unit rebooted and started over again and wanted to go through system setup again. All my previous choices were there as I went through the menu a couple of times as it kept re-booting. I never got all the way through the setup. So then I tried removing power and restarting the unit and it would not start. Now the fan runs, the drive spins up, but i have no front panel lights and no picture or starting screens.
Does the power supply have separate inputs to the mother board that would make the fan run but not power the motherboard? Does all the above sound like a power supply problem? Please help!!!
