I am a new member. I have scanned numerous threads and seen references to swapping drives, and instructions that the members are using. I can't find a thread where those instructions are listed.
I have a 4-5 year old Series 2 single tuner, and the playing of recorded video is sticking in 2-3 places during a 30 minute playback...will eventually resume normal speed without my doing anything. Have watched the show live as it is recorded and not seen this chop, so know it is not the inbound signal. Tivo has confirmed over phone that this sounds like a hard drive issue, but of course their response is $150 fee for a refurb unit they sell on their web site for $79 PLUS $200 to transfer my Lifetime Service. Not exactly the terms I was looking for.
The unit has also hung 2-3 times the past month, which a power-down/up addresses.
Can you point me to the instructions on drive selection, and steps. I am a moderatly skilled PC jockey and have no issue swapping drives in PCs. Is the Tivo OS on this drive, or in firmware? I'll assume the instructions tell one that, and how to preserve the data during the swap out.
Thanks in advance....Jon
