How often to format

How often to format

Can't find this searching, so here it is.

It is recommended that periodically we format the disk - clean it up so to say?

I've had the current boxes for years, quality of recording is getting bad, so I've up the quality setting, which of course takes more space.

I'm just wondering if a reformat of the drive is a useful thing to do, and if so, how often - yearly?

No - there's really no way to do that in a TiVo, and the file system a TiVo uses generally makes that unnecessary.

In most cases, if you're getting bad quality, you have a failing drive in the hardware sense, and you should get a replacement drive.
