I have 2 Series 2 Tivos - a TCD540040 and a TCD540080. Recently the 540080 started having a problem with washed out colors - from the forums it looks like a motherboard problem, so I ordered a HD to replace that box. However, it seems a shame to throw out an 80-hour HDD and keeping the 40-hour one. From the forums, it appears that I can swap the drives between the two without a problem. But I was wondering - when I move the 540080 drive into the 540040, will the 540040 retain its serial number, or will it now think it is the 540080? The reason I ask is that the 540040 was my primary box (for the monthly subscription), and the subscription for the 540080 has been dropped. I want to make sure the resulting box doesn't think it is one that no longer has a subscription.
