Any way to salvage TIVO functionality with Comcast cable service? Comcast cable has upgraded to total digital service, requiring Digital Transport Adapters to get channels above 30 in our area (up to 30 is local channels, community cable, etc). This effectively bypasses TIVO for programming features, unless I preset DTA channel for a program and have TIVO record on channel 3, basically as we did in old days with early generation VCR. Can I ever use my TIVO again?

Are you using a standard definition or high definition TiVo? I'm assuming SD, in which case you need to go through setup again and let the TiVo control the cable box. It might help to know what model TiVo you have.

We have a similar problem - we have Comcast and two Tivo boxes. The older one is a Series 2 Tivo with a DVD writer that we bought in 2005. Just recently we stopped being able to tune in channels 29 through 70 with the Tivo tuner. I have searched Comcast's website looking for an explanation - but haven't found anything yet.

Have you tried redoing Guided Setup?

I ran the guided setup today and it didn't help. As previously noted, we have Comcast and our zip code is 33322.

On our Series 2 Tivo, we get channels 2 through 25. Then the tuner jumps to channel 76, 77, and 78 and then back to channel 2.

The TV is an LCD flat panel unit that is only about 1 month old.

When I use the straight cable input to the TV, I can get channels 2 thru 18. Then the next two channels are weird 18-437 and 18-438. Then it picks up with 19 through 25, it skips 26, and jumps to 27 and continues to 40. Then we get five weird channels 41-58, 41-59, 41-63, 41-70, and 41-137. Channels 42 thru 72 are next - but then it skips 73 and goes to 74-12 and 74-27. I could go on, but that is the pattern a group of 2 digit channels with somewhat random 4 or 5 digit channels.

Is it possible that the tuner in our Humax, Series 2 Tivo has failed?

Are you using a cable box, or just the cable itself into the Humax?

              Follow up

No cable box - the cable goes right from the wall and into Tivo

Then that's probably the problem. The channels you don't get are digital, and the Humax can't read them. The Humax can only read analog signals, so those channels work. For the others to work, you'd need the cable box from your cable company to decrypt and transfer the info to analog.

                  update/correction

I was somewhat mistaken when I described the problem earlier. As it turns out, the problem with jumping from channel 25 to 76 only happens when we use the "channel up" or "channel down" on the Tivo remote. We can manually enter channels (sucha as 30, 42, 55, etc.) with the Tivo remote and the channel plays just fine.

If you got to the 'channels you receive' section of the TiVo, do you have all of the channels selected? Are you filtering your guide?

everything was selected up to chanel 25. It skips 26. channel 27 was listed but not selected - but then it skips to 76. I am running the guided setup again, just in case I missed something.

When you went through setup, are you sure you chose the correct cable lineup? Did you tell the Tivo that you had basic cable when you actually have a package that includes pay channels?
