I have a Philips Tivo unit for 7 years now. Gone through drives twice. The modem fails to make the calls now and doesn't hang up completely so my telephone line is tied up. I am now manually making calls, which is not easy, as you have to plug in the telephone cable right at the "housekeeping" stage or it will fail. Has anyone been successful in changing out the transistors on the mother board. They were originally mfg'd with surface mount technology. Any suggestions on soldering them in?? Any precautions/suggestion?

We highly recommend just getting our external TiVo modem kit. The modem in it is much more robust than the modem in your TiVo itself, and you don't take the chance of screwing up the motherboard by accident.Been here a long time . . .
