  • tivo series 2 issue

came home from vacation and my tivo was "revving" or spinning pretty loudly.

I unplugged it, plugged it back in and it began to clack (from the sound of it i was thinking hard drive), fan is spinning fine, no lights on the front. Then the clacking stopped and replaced by a low rev. meanwhile, the "welcome, powering up" message was displayed the entire time

does this sound like a bad hard drive (i hope).

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Sounds like you may need a power supply and possibly a drive. Another option is this:

    TiVo Repair--Flat Fee

ok, quick update on the original status. everything the same as stated above, except that the front panel lights are always on during the process.

with this important information correction, does this move it away and closer to the drive, since it is clacking, and then goes into a loud spin?

So hard to know - if the front panel lights are on solid, it really doesn't mean too much.
