We have two R10's. Only one was connected when a lightning storm hit and fried the phone interface, so this box could not dial in. It did continue to work otherwise and recorded many programs via Season Pass. I tried moving the hard drive from that unit to my other R10, and found that it would not work. DirecTV Tech Support told me I can't swap drives. Is there a way I can swap drives to save my recorded programs? Both drives and motherboards appear identical.

Sorry, but no, you can't move the drive into another unit and keep recordings. You have to clear and delete. More info is here:
